Chapter 8.1: Digital Technologies - CCTV Technology Fundamentals
Posted by Arowosegbe Olawale in General
Modern CCTV systems are constructed entirely of digital components, from the cameras to the recording devices, and no longer require the conversion of analogue to digital video signals. Tape-based storage systems, multiplexers, and switching systems are being replaced by computers and digital recording devices.
Since any type of data can be digitized, CCTV systems can be integrated with virtually any other information management system. They are capable of processing, analyzing, displaying, and storing data from other media and surveillance sensors. CCTV can be integrated with a facility's intrusion detection, access control, and alarm systems so that data from all devices is displayed on the same displays, images, and maps to security personnel. Consequently, security monitoring personnel have access to multimedia presentations that integrate video with radar, laser radar, sonar, intrusion detection alarms, satellite mapping, and imaging to create visual situation images.
