Chapter 4.3: IP Network Transmission - CCTV Technology Fundamentals

Posted by Arowosegbe Olawale in General

Because of their low cost and high-performance video capabilities, IP-based systems have become a viable alternative to traditional methods of communication. Using pre-existing infrastructure like cables and cameras, the tech sector has figured out how to implement IP-based systems. However, businesses should think about IP-based technology when planning and designing new systems. This section discusses the fundamental parameters of IP-based network systems.

4.3.1 Internet Protocol Network System Overview

CCTV systems that operate over an IP network can be used to keep an eye on a location, capture footage for later review, and even send live feeds to other devices. To cut down on setup time and expenses, the system can leverage pre existing LANs, WANs, and/or WLANs. Private area networks (PANs) provide an extra layer of security, but this requires the installation of dedicated cabling and supporting hardware by the company.

To further improve cost-effectiveness and dependability, an IP-based system may also make use of Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. A significant amount of money can be saved when designing CCTV systems thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE), which allows multiple networked devices to receive power and data through a single standard cable.

The components of a basic IP-based CCTV system include a network camera, a network switch, and a personal computer for monitoring, storing, analyzing, and managing the CCTV system.

4.3.2 Cyber Security

For any business to succeed, it is essential that data remain private, intact, and accessible at all times. Since IP-based CCTV systems transmit and store video images and crucial operational surveillance data on a network, they pose a cyber-security risk. Information security needs to be one of your top concerns when making plans for safety.

In terms of scope and complexity, cyber security goes far beyond the implications of a simple surveillance system. However, before implementing an IP-based CCTV system, any organization should think about issues like hardware and software control measures, network control measures, and network security.
